Rand Fishkin, CEO of SEOMoz talks about the future of search engines in this video. Search engine optimization is getting competitive by the day.
According to Rand, Google’s domination would stay steady for broad and generic searches. However, narrow searches such as ‘nearest restaurants’, will gradually be divided among new search engines that provide custom searches. The rise of these individual search engines will take away Google’s dominance but, as a generic search engine, Google will continue to stay a pioneer and leader.
It’s an interesting thought, but of recent Google has been investing in customizing search results for specific purposes like results for movie show times and others. With the kind of resources at hand, Google may well keep its position until something more revolutionary comes by. Most search engine users like to stay loyal to a single search engine, simply because it’s a mind space issue. Nonetheless, Rand has an interesting point of view – do check out the video.
