Austin, Texas: In an interview with the internet marketing Guru Guy Kawasaki at an SXSW panel, Google’s Senior Vice President for Social Business Vic Gundotra said that Google+ is the “next generation of Google”.
In spite of all the criticism attracted by the social networking site, Google’s Vic Gundotra tried to defend Google’s move.
Ignoring reports about users shunning Google+, Vic Gundotra highlighted that the site has 100 million users who return to the site monthly and 50 million who return daily. Gundotra failed to explain why users should use Google+ over its competitors. When asked about this, Gundotra only said that the users can have an “improved experience” on the site as now it delivers ads that are personalized to suit the users’ tastes.
On being asked what Google+ really meant to him, Gundotra replied that it is a “social layer across all of Google’s services”. He added that the old Google was “siloed” and that the identity of an individual user was scattered among various services. He claimed that with new privacy policy and the integration of Google+ with Google search engine, the site now knows users’ name, understands users’ circles and personalizes all the services.
