‘Freshness’ seems to be Google’s latest mantra. Many of the changes implemented by the search giant in the past few months have been all about freshness. The freshness update, which according to the company built upon the momentum generated by Caffeine, was launched in November. Google’s deal with popular microblogging site Twitter expired last year and the search giant seems to be trying to fill the void created by the lack of real-time search.
Every month Google releases a list of updates made to the search algorithm. When the list of algorithm changes for the month of January was released, freshness was clearly a key focus. The list started with ‘fresher results’ and went on to include faster autocomplete, autocomplete spelling correction, better image search and more. The trend continued in the list for the month of February.
Recently Google released the list of algorithm changes for the month of March and once again freshness appears more than once in it. The list starts with ‘high quality website algorithm data update and freshness improvement’. With Google’s increasing focus on freshness, regularly updating your site with quality content has become more important than even before. Website owners and web content writers need to start aligning their strategies to this trend soon.
