Since its launch in 2010, Facebook’s ‘Like’ button has been a huge success. The social giant’s S-1 filing indicates that the number of comments and Likes created per day is over 2.7 billion. Popular Facebook Pages like Manchester United and Lady Gaga each boast of over 20 million Likes. According to the company insiders, these figures can be easily topped by ‘Hates’.
It is a sad but well known fact that the number of things people hate on the internet is much higher than those that they like. This has been proved by Facebook studies. When the Like button was launched, Mark Zuckerberg expected users to create more than one billion Likes within a day. Sources at Facebook claim that on the release of the Hate button, Mark expects users to create two billion Hates within 24 hour.
It is yet to be decided whether the new button will be called ‘Hate’ or ‘Dislike’. The Like button accounts for a major share of the social giant’s revenue. The launch of the Hate or Dislike button could further increase its value ahead of the IPO release. Apart from Hate, the company has been experimenting with a number of buttons like ‘Fax’, ‘Who Cares’ and ‘Love’. While these buttons are likely to add to the value of the company, as a premier social media and professional writing service provider, we fear that they may lead to a button explosion.
